My (recurring) general vid preferences are as follows: motion, character studies, humour, seriousness lurking below humour, humour spun out of seriousness, serious deconstructions, SCIENCE, magic, things that are just plain fun, things that are thinky, things that are things, awesome ladies, awesome characters in general, and awesome adventures. I love things that defy genre and I ALSO love things that embrace and celebrate their genre.
As for the specifics:
Disney:
Disney Renaissance (Movies)
I grew up on these movies. I have a lot of love and a lot of nostalgia for them, but that doesn't mean I'm going to pretend they're perfect and unproblematic. My preference is for something fun and cheerful and crossover-y, but if that's not where your mind goes, I also appreciate thinky things. (I have issues with B&tB and Beast, especially, but not the point where I wouldn't love Belle etc in a vid. Pocahontas is - yeah, that's an entire other discussion right there, isn't it?)
I love the princesses, I love animal friends, I love adventures, I love how over the top the villains are, I love emotional arcs, I love how gorgeous these movies are.
Aladdin
I don't think I've seen the second and third movies, but I did love the show when I was little. I started listing the characters I love, but it basically turned into my listing off the entire roster. I have such strong memories of watching this for the first time in my babysitter's basement, with her mouthing every word.
Mulan
I love this movie so much????? Mulan herself is my favourite, though in a movie with Mushu and bisexual icon Li Shang (amongst others) I'd also be really happy with an ensemble vid as well.
Non-Disney:
X-Men: The Animated Series (Ororo Munroe)
Okay, so, this show can actually probably be credited with the fact that I'm in fandom at all. It was my fannish genesis, because it got me into comics, which got me into fic, and many years later, here we are. Storm was always my favourite growing up, and my friends and I used to argue over who got to be her when we were playing X-Men. The AU time travel episode where she has a mohawk is the reason I ship Storm/Wolverine so hard. I'd love a Storm vid, or a Storm/Wolverine vid, or a vid about that episode. I'd also adore a vid about the X-Ladies, or the team as a whole. I also think that it's a source that lends itself well to humour and experimentation, so feel free to go as far over the top as you want.
Fandom:Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon | Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon (Anime & Manga)
Hello! It turns out my bb self still has a lot of feelings about Sailor Moon. Given the source, I feel free to be as cheesy as fuck and say I'd really just adore a vid about the power of love winning out. Because that's what sets Usagi apart, at the end of the day, and I feel like the world could use as much of that as possible right now. I'd also love a team vid, or a vid about friendship. It's cool to be critical - everyone make mistakes, in fiction as in real life - but I'd rather it not be a vid about how any specific character is terrible. I'd also rather Mamoru not be the main and only focus, though I'm totally cool with his being there. (I grew up on the dub, but I have since watched the sub.) Overall, I think I'd really just love a vid that was any combination of happy, silly, hopeful, and full of love and/or friendship
The Mummy (1999)
This movie is such a perfect balance of action, suspense, and humour. I feel like it could be fun to celebrate all of those aspects of the film, or to take one and turn the dial up to 11 on it. Want to make a vid that makes it look like spine-tingling horror? I am here for that. Want to make an over the top vid that leaves me laughing my socks off? I am ALSO here for that.
